Minimalism 102: Minimalist Living and Mental Health
Hey everyone, it’s Dr. Jen and welcome back to my Minimalism Series. In Minimalism 102, I will discuss aspects of minimalist living, the mental health aspects of minimalism, the association between minimalism and mental health, and potential barriers to minimalism, like mental disorders such as Hoarding Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. We'll also do an exercise together to assess a sample of your worldly possessions and determine if they spark joy or not.
Are you a hoarder or are you a minimalist? Chances are, if you clicked on this video, you either are curious about minimalism or maybe you’re one of my loyal subscribers who watches all my videos! :)
In this video, I will provide an overview of minimalist living, why people engage in minimalism, and why some people have difficulty becoming a minimalist. I will also address the following:
What is the definition of frugality?
Why QUALITY is better than QUANTITY
What is minimalist living?
Do your possessions spark joy?
How do hoarding and obsessive compulsive personality traits get in the way of minimalism?
Remember: There is no one-size-fits-all mold for what a minimalist should look like, be, or how they act. Ultimately, there is no one “right” way to be a minimalist, and everyone has their own definition of what minimalism means to them. You do you :)
There comes a time in every minimalist’s life where they have that A-HA moment and realize that the way they’re living their lives is no longer satisfying. It may even be harmful in some instances. They’ve been contemplating about change and start feeling ready to take action. ENOUGH is ENOUGH!
Tip: But don’t get rid of stuff JUST because you can.
Stay tuned for my upcoming Minimalism 103 video, where I will discuss 25 benefits of minimalism.
Thanks for tuning in today and I hope to see you budding minimalists in the next one!
Aloha,
Dr. Jen
